The folk music ensemble Tallari's Short Side concert features the Central Ostrobothnian kantele, as the name of the concert suggests: a Central Ostrobothnian kantele is played with the shorter side of the kantele next to the player. Tallari's guest is kantele player Maija Pokela, and the programme includes pieces from the most important traditional style kantele players who have inspired Pokela. The concerts moods vary from a rootsy folk music groove to a delicate, airy atmosphere.
Maija Pokela (b. 1990) has started playing the kantele at the age of five and graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 2017. She has performed in various ensembles in almost 20 countries and is known for example from bands such as Kardemimmit and Enkel, which was chosen as the band of the year for the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2019 and won the folk music album of the year 2018 vote.
